Digital Lexicography and AI: In the Spotlight of Europe’s Educational Transformation 🌍💬
On March 26, 2025, a roundtable titled “Digital Lexicography in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Innovations for Multilingual Europe” 🤖📚 was held as part of the ESPERIDTA Summer School. This event was organized within the framework of the project “European Studies for Supporting Polish Education and Research in Digital Transformation: Interdisciplinary Approach” (Grant Agreement 101172710 – ERASMUS-JMO-2024-HEI-TCH-RSCH), co-funded by the European Commission 🇪🇺 and hosted at the University of Economics and Human Sciences in Warsaw (Poland).
Moderated by Prof. Olena Semenoh (Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko), the discussion brought together scholars and students from across Ukraine — including Kyiv, Sumy, Lutsk, Hlukhiv, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chernihiv, Pryluky, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, and beyond 🗺️.
The presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics: the use of AI in lexicography (Iryna Nasminchuk) 🤖; development of multimedia dictionaries (Nataliia Ponomarenko) 🎧📖; psychological-pedagogical innovations in dictionary format (Myroslava Vovk) 🧠📘; terminology systems in educational research (Olha Fast) ✍️; cultural approaches to digital lexicography and the interplay between language and identity (Nataliia Hohol) 🌐🇺🇦; the role of dictionaries in teaching Ukrainian literature (Olha Muratova) 📙; integrating lexicographic knowledge into primary education (Daryna Umen, Diana Okhrimenko) 🧒📚; semantic and corpus-based studies of literary vocabulary (Olena Bahatska) ✨.
The discussion also featured insights from Maryna Voloshchuk (Kamianets-Podilskyi State Institute), Iryna Hutsuliak (Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University), Yurii Prokopenko (Donetsk National University named after Vasyl Stus), and Nataliia Hrona (Pryluky) 🗣️.
The roundtable reaffirmed that digital lexicography is not only an academic discipline, but also a powerful tool for pedagogy, language policy, and digital transformation in Europe 💡.
